February Zine: ‘Everyday Romance’ & celebrating the month of love <3
Welcome to my second zine of the year!!
let’s first set the mood with a mixtape that I think best fits the energy of this month x
For my second zine I had this idea to celebrate everything I love: my art, my daily routines, the people in my life & all the little things that make life feel soft and romantic <3 I wanted to incorporate different kinds of love, not just the obvious ones. From enjoying time with yourself or getting lost in your hobbies, to buying flowers for someone you love, spending afternoons with friends, playing with your cat, or just existing in your own little world and finding comfort in your passions.
With that in mind, I thought what better way to bring this idea to life than by also celebrating all the illustrations I’ve made so far? Looking back at them, they already feel like they belong to the same universe anyway, like fragments of the same story. A big, ongoing series about girlhood, everyday life, soft moments & close-knit friendships. This zine kind of became a way to gather all those pieces and let them exist together, like a visual diary but a bit more dreamy and intentional.
So I started with the covers: I kept everything simple on purpose because I didn’t want them to overpower what’s inside, but rather to set the mood in a subtle way. I went for something very playful: a DYI feeling with a simple plaid background & a tape-like effect for the text, like it’s all been pieced together by hand. It kind of ties back to the whole idea of collecting little moments and holding them together: imperfect but meaningful!!! x
I also decided to add a small text caption on each piece, almost like little notes or thoughts attached to each moment, making everything feel more personal & story-like.
So the first page has a little introductive caption, kind of like a soft opening note, setting the tone before everything else unfolds. From there it just flows into each page. I really liked the idea of it feeling almost like you’re flipping through someone’s personal journal, where every page holds a small story, a mood or a memory <3
I chose to build the whole design around a lot of pink & red because it just felt right, it instantly gives that “month of love” energy, very Valentine’s Day coded, but I also didn’t want it to feel cliché or too polished. I wanted it to feel personal and a bit messy in a cute way, like something made with care <3
And then, at the end, the last page kind of brings everything back together with a closure text about what “everyday romance” means to me. It felt important to not just show these moments visually, but to also put into words that feeling I keep chasing in my work: that softness, that quiet kind of love that exists in the in-between moments, hihi.
I’m sooo pleased with how it turned out & I’m very excited to print it <3
