LIL SOMETHING ABOUT ME
I’m Oana Popescu (aka girlfringe), visual artist living and working in Bucharest.
All my life is centered around art - I’m always creating something whether it’s digital illustration, comics, collages, zine making or working on my day job as a photographer. Having a background in photography and video, I’m also very passionate about creating visuals surrounding my creative process and daily life, whether it’s fun photoshoots or short films.
When I’m not doing anything art related, you can find me out with my besties, practicing playing bass, swimming, scrapbooking, crying in the club, creating a very specific spotify playlist, playing with my cat, adding new trinkets or photo magazines to my collections, journaling my feelings or rewatching my comfort shows.
LIL SOMETHING ABOUT MY ART <3
I’m mostly passionate about creating art surrounding themes like girlhood, day to day feelings and relatable youthful experiences, usually creating illustrations which feel like a photograph or a movie-like scene. I’m also very sentimental about my teenagehood and I enjoy creating art which captures the nostalgic moments and intense emotions from that era — sun-drenched memories of sleepovers, secret crushes, movie nights, girly accessories, nostalgic games, fave music albums and overly decorated bedrooms.
Contrasted with my love for the gritty 80s-90s-2000s aesthetics of pop culture, blogs, punk female bands, cartoons & comics, my works are characterized by storytelling, detailed compositions and fun patterns. Some signature elements I like to add in my works are fun patterns, vintage objects and rockstar lookbooks, usually describing the characters in my art as unapologetically emotional, sometimes cool sometimes awkward, angsty and rebellious.
